House buyers and homeowners have borrowed more in July than in any month since the eve of the financial crisis in the middle of 2008, according to industry figures.
Lending levels hit a post-crash record in June with £20.1bn of mortgages in the month. But July's numbers soared past that to £22bn, a 9pc increase.
The numbers are made up of 61,000 home buyers and 31,600 owners remortgaging their properties.
